Interning with Cut Off Studios

Updated: Mar 25, 2019

In Spring of 2018, we launched our internship program. Our first intern was Josh Carter, the musical director of Pitch Please at Temple University. Over the course of the Spring, and continuing into this summer, Josh had the opportunity to work closely with Kyle, as well as work with and get advice from the rest of the Cut Off Studios team. We had a great time working with Josh as our first intern and continue to work with him as he works on his group's recording project!

"Serving as an intern for Cut Off Studios this past spring has been a great experience. As someone who is very passionate about a cappella, it was an opportunity to learn more about different aspects of a cappella, from recording to arranging. I got to meet and work with people who were just as passionate as a cappella.I was able to arrange a commissioned song, Kesha’s “Praying,” for Key of She at Central Connecticut State University. I’ve had experience arranging so it was awesome to have an outlet to arrange for other groups.

Additionally, I recorded a 5-track EP with my own group, Pitch, Please at Temple University. Kyle taught me the steps of recording and how to use a DAW, as well as the physical equipment. It was a long process but totally worth it! I also learned how to use Melodyne to edit vocal tracks. This is an ongoing project that I will continue to learn more throughout.Interning at Cut Off was a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in a cappella, especially recording!"
